Text Banking Request Scale to Win is a web platform for sending text messages to large lists of phone numbers. Access to the chapter's Scale to Win is available to all chapter formations upon request, pending approval as per our Spoke Policy (Spoke is the name of an older texting app which became a generic word for mass texting), which you should read to understand how approvals are decided. This form is long, so please read through it, understand all the questions, and gather all needed information before starting. If you have any questions, or run into any problems with this form, please reach out for help in #helpdesk on Slack, or by opening a general support ticket. Texters need to make a Scale to WIn login in the MDC DSA account before they’re able to receive responses and follow up with mass text recipients. Please send the link to create Scale to Win logins to your texters and ask them to create accounts before you submit your request. If the link doesn't work, please notify us in #helpdesk or #adcom. Please allow a minimum of one week (7 days) between the submission of your request and the start of your text campaign.

Initial Text Guidelines Include [TXTERNAME] if you want the texter's name filled in automatically. Note that the texter is the "sender" of the text and not the recipient. If the recipient texts back, the texter will continue the conversation as appropriate, using their Scale To Win login. Don't write your message expecting to have the recipient's name filled in automatically. Our records can be out of date and we do not want to deadname anyone. If you want to include other per-recipient information in the text, include it in the CSV upload as an additional labeled column. You can also request other information from our records to be included, but we can't guarantee it will be available. Each segment must be 160 characters or less, so please count the characters before submitting, using the name of the longest texter if including texter names. We pay by the segment, so an initial text with two segments will cost twice as much as one with only one segment. Don't use bit.ly, tinyurl, or other public URL shorteners. Carriers will filter such messages out as spam. Instead, use a short mdcdsa.org URL, such as mdcdsa.org/go/mymaydayevent, note the full URL elsewhere, and we will set up your requested short URL if possible. Carrier rules require us to include opt-out language such as "Text STOP to quit", so include this or an equivalent in your message.

Who should receive this text? * What cross-section of the list would you like your text to target? For example, "all current members", or "all current members living in Ward 9 who have expressed an interest in housing justice", or "everyone who attended the Electoral Working Group meeting on August 10th", etc. The more specific you get the more likely we will be able to approve your request without delay. How long is your list? *

Texters Spoke requires people manually send any pre-configured follow-up texts to the list of targets. You will need a team of texters in place in order to send the follow-up texts once your request is processed and set up. Send these people the link to create Spoke accounts, and ask them to make sure they have an account, before submitting.

Next Steps
What happens after I click submit? When the ticket is received, it is assigned to a Spoke Team representative. The rep will contact you through Red Desk to confirm that they’ve seen your ticket and to ask you for any additional information needed. The Spoke Team will then work behind the scenes to get the campaign launched. Upon the launch of your campaign, you will receive a confirmation notice through Red Desk with further instructions.
